Potato Time

Yesterday, with the assistance of Mr. Raymond, we dug up our potatoes.  It’s the first crop of this season and the first time we planted potatoes 🥔.   Eddie, Ms. Sharon, the Pritchetts, Sparkie, Ms. Elaine and a couple of other neighbors filled a bucket or bag with the new potatoes.  We were a little worried because we didn’t get any rain all of April but they were beautiful and delicious.

In another big warm our hearts good news is that for the first time since Century Hope Garden came into existence we have been able to share our crop with the Abundant Life Foodbank.  It wasn’t a lot but I put in 2 buckets into a big box.  I arrived too early, so I left the box and some bags donated by Food Giant on the porch.  After running errands, I went back in a few hours and the Foodbank crew had already divided them up in individual bags and placed them in each food boxes going out that day.  Sorry, no pictures.  Ms. Donna, who runs the foodbank was  grateful and gave me her contact number right away.  I know we’ll work great together.  Hopefully, we can reach and work with other organizations soon, too.🙏

Of course, we owe all this to our current Master Gardener, Mr. Raymond.  Mr. Raymond after helping us dig potatoes Saturday morning, came back that afternoon and tilled over 2 plots getting them ready for the next crop.  He said he went through 4 t-shirts …. wow!  We would also like to thank all the volunteers and sponsors past and current…. the Spencers, Jonathan, Rochelle, PSC Pensacola, PSC Century (Sparkie), Shelisa , my mother(Kim) , the Pritchetts, the Partains, the Boutwells, Ms. Paula, Ms. Debbie 🕊,  Century Kwik Stop, Bondurants, Campbell’s Gravel, and Food Giant.  Thank you!
