Nothing exciting happened on workday 11(October 30)….we just worked steadily away at pulling weeds, rather bushes in this case.
Sunday, November 7th…..it was forecasted for rain this past Thursday but none came. My mom also mentioned there was no dew Friday and Saturday mornings. So my mom and I ventured out to water our veggies and to pull out some of the mustard greens. The mustard greens ( we figured it was not turnips because of the lack of turnips at the roots) was smothering the collard greens. This is my fault entirely. We had way too many mustard seeds and I decided to sow all of it. At the time, I figured that the seeds were old (at least 3 years old) and probably not all of them viable. I was wrong! Every seed sprouted. I harvested theses seeds from the abandoned kiddie garden years ago.
So we went to work and pulled out the mustard greens too close to the collard greens. Occasionally we would pull out a collard green, oops, but we put them back in the soil. We were able to work around the edges but had to leave the middle section for another day.
When we got home, mom said we had enough to share with two others. So we decided on 2 members and mom went to work cutting off the roots. I didn’t think all that work was necessary but she insisted. Saying it makes it easier to cook if we give it out already prepared. Someday we’ll have enough for the community!!!
