Work Day #8

So workday 6 and 7 were uneventful. We continued to fill up our raised bed, hoping that it wouldn’t settle anymore. After about 3 barrels full we found our heap of topsoil was hard as a rock where the rain didn’t seep in. So we joked about borrowing a sledgehammer to break up the soil and went home for the day.

Workday 7, we didn’t attempt to work on the topsoil since it was still pretty hard even though we had some rain. We turned our attention to the ground beds that we weren’t going to use this season. The weeds are about my height and I attempted to weedeat it. When it came in contact with the high weeds the weedeater bounced back towards me and couldn’t or wouldn’t cut the thicker stalks. So I abandoned the weedeater and started pulling the tall weeds by hand. I was able to do about a fourth of the area and found 4 bags of mulch hiding in the weed forest.

On work day #8…..we found our raised bed invaded by grass! So we pulled them out and filled it with topsoil again. We’re hoping one more workday and we’ll have finished this raised bed for planting.
